A teacher in New York decided to honor each of her graduating high school students, and she wanted to tell each of them the impact they had on her. She called the students to the front of the classroom one by one, first, she told them about their impact on her and the class, then she handed them a blue ribbon in gold lettering that read: "The world is different because of me. "
She noticed a dramatic change in attitudes among students and decided to start a class project to see how this compliment would impact the community. She also gave each student three ribbons to promote the ceremony.
A boy came to a nearby company, found a young executive at the company, thanked him for helping him with his career planning, and pinned a blue ribbon to his shirt. The boy gave the supervisor two more ribbons to compliment someone, and gave the other two to that person, so that person could pass the ribbons on. The boy asked the supervisor to report back to him what happened next.
Later that day, the young executive went to see his boss, who was notoriously short-tempered. He asked the boss to sit down and said he admired the boss as a creative genius. The boss was very surprised, and the young supervisor asked him if he would accept the blue ribbon as a gift, and if he could pin it on his clothes. The astonished boss agreed, and the supervisor pinned the blue ribbon to his chest, gave him a third, and told him the boy's request.
That night, the boss sat his 14-year-old son down and said, "An incredible thing happened today, I was in the office, and a young executive came in and said he admired me, that I was a creative genius. and gave me a blue ribbon. You imagine he said I was a creative genius." Then he said he wanted to praise his son and pinned that last blue ribbon to his son's T-shirt.
The flattered son cried, unable to contain his emotions, his whole body was shaking, he looked at his father with tears in his eyes and said, "Dad, earlier this evening, I wrote you and Mom in my room. A letter explaining the reasons for my suicide and asking you to forgive me, I wanted to wait for you to fall asleep before acting, I thought you didn't care about me."
My father went upstairs and found the distressed letter, on the envelope, "Mom and Dad."
When the boss reappeared in the company, he was completely different. He called in the employees one by one and explained their roles.
That boy and his classmates also learned a valuable lesson, the world is indeed different for you!
